Blown Film Line

  • A 1.5¡± diameter, 24 L/D long single screw extruder is used for plasticating polymer pellets to homogeneous melt. Normally the pellets are gravity fed through the hopper. For moisture sensitive materials, a hopper drier is used. Mounting a dosing feeder for meter feeding additive is also possible.

  • A 10 HP DC motor, the speed of which is controlled manually from the control panel, drives the extruder.  The feed throat could be heated or cooled by circulating heat transfer fluid. The barrel has four independently controlled temperature zones. Pressure and temperature transducers are mounted at the end of the barrel to monitor the melt pressure and temperature.

  • A 4¡± dia. spiral mandrel die is used for extruding the melt in tube form. The bubble is stabilized by adjusting the internal bubble air pressure, cooling airflow rate and the line speed.

  • The tower is 10 ft high. The bubble is collapsed by the nip roll and is wound on 4¡± diameter core. This line is used for the production of film in tubular form. The film is blown upward and can be used for process development or for material evaluation.
